We are called to “Baltimore”

May 1, 2015:

Freddie Gray. Eric Garner. Michael Brown. Tamir Rice. Eric Harris. Others. Sisters and brothers. Victims of brutality, stupidity, armed fear, inadequate training, deep stereotypical and racial bias. A bias that feeds the assumption that there are those who are to be less in life: less than, less trusted, less deserving, less human and less loved. Those of whom we say, “There but for the grace of God…” Really? It is the mindset that some dominant forces engage and promote, imposing the arrogance of selective superiority that allows for excesses in injustice – because, really…”it’s just them, again.” Many of us understand this on a personal basis. Many abide not of this, including most of those in law enforcement. Yet, this is not a debate any more than it is an issue. This is about people and their lives and how we love one another. It is always about how we love one another. I pray we all have the courage to love beyond our own walls of resistance from whatever place we come and grapple hatred with the power of God  in our lives(however we know God) and the wisdom and willingness to step into the struggle, until it forms an unbreakable embrace – for all. ~Ray
